Questions and answers about our dining tables

Don't buy off the shelf, buy unique!

Amazing, because there aren't that many price differences at the start. But the result speaks for itself. A hand-made dining table made of carpentry quality, where the carpenter himself really enjoys the job - you'll see and feel that. The choice of wood, aesthetics and workmanship are designed to produce a truly unique table.

We rely on classic carpentry to ensure precision and efficiency, while at the same time preserving and even supporting the natural properties of the wood.

The passion of our carpenters is reflected in every detail. Each table top is made with dedication and care, paying attention to the unique grain and characteristics of the wood. In other words, our carpenters are genuinely happy when a table is manufactured. The result is visible.

Our wooden darling table tops are not only functional, but also works of art for your home. We are proud to offer our customers handcrafted table tops that guarantee years of joy and beauty. A dining table should be the focal point in every kitchen/dining room. We know what that means :-).

Choosing the right size for your dining table is crucial to ensure it fits your space and needs. Here are some key considerations to help you determine the optimal size of your dining table:

1. Room size: Measuring is the first step. Determine the exact dimensions of the room where the dining table will be placed. Pay attention to the width and length of the available space.

2. Freedom of movement: Remember that it is important to have enough space around the table. A minimum distance of about 90 cm between the edge of the table and the wall or other furniture allows you to sit down and stand up comfortably.

3. Number of seats: Consider how many people will regularly sit at the table. A simple rule of thumb is that each eater will need about 60cm in width and 45cm in depth. However, also consider chair size and whether you will occasionally have extra guests.

4. Table function: Consider how you plan to use the table. If it's just for meals, a smaller table will suffice. If you plan to use the table for game nights, craft projects, or as a work surface, choose a larger size.

5. Design and proportions: Make sure the dining table is proportional to your space and other furniture. A table that is too large can overwhelm the room, while a table that is too small can look lost.

6. Style and aesthetics: Think about the style of your room and how the dining table will fit in. A dining table should not only be functional but also aesthetically pleasing.

Unique wood features

Wood is a natural product and is simply unique in its form and variety. We are always fascinated by the very unique patterns that a wood grain creates when we make our table tops. Of course, we carefully select the wooden planks we use beforehand so that individual wood features fit perfectly with the desired overall look of the table.

For example, in a rustic table top made of wild oak, we deliberately use wood with many characteristic features such as wood rays and knotholes. These are by no means a defect, but rather always proof that wood is a material that has lived. Sealed with special wood putty, the knots have a special effect on the overall appearance of the table top. The top becomes dynamic and lively.

Of course, we can also produce table tops in a very clean and uniform look if you wish. As with wild oak, we pre-sort them. Only selected planks end up on the saw and are sawn to size. All distinctive wood features are removed and only "clean" slats are used in the table.

At Holz-Liebling, every dining table has a soul.

The perfect finish

The surface treatment with oil is a craft art that makes our table tops true masterpieces. At every step of this process, we devote ourselves to the table top with dedication and precision. It is the final step, because only now can we see the grain and the color gradients. Our experienced carpenters know that the right oil treatment not only highlights the natural grain and color of the wood, but also provides a protective layer. The result is a table top that not only looks stunning, but is also protected against wear. We use a high-quality Worktop Oil made from linseed oil and tung oil, which naturally enhances the beauty of the wood. The grain is deepened, the colors more vibrant, and the table top feels wonderfully smooth. Please note that with a newly made table top, the oiled surface will only be completely hardened after 2-3 weeks at your home. During this time, protect it from too much moisture, heat or absorbent materials/paper.

Stability through ridge strips

Every wooden favorite table is secured by ridge strips. Ridge strips, which can be made of wood or metal, are essential in the manufacture of dining table tops. They provide stability and prevent warping, cracking and splitting in the wood. These narrow strips contribute to the durability and aesthetics of the table while maintaining its structural integrity.

In our video we explain in detail the benefits of ridge strips and show you how we install ridge strips in our table tops.

The shipment is of course insured. This means that if something is damaged during transport (which rarely happens), we will arrange for it to be picked up as soon as possible. If you notice something during delivery, you can give the dining table to the driver immediately. The insurance protects you as the buyer and us as the sender financially. We will get started right away and take care of the replacement.

The care

Taking care of your oiled dining table is important to ensure that you have a fresh and good-looking dining table even after years of use in your home. Over time, a table becomes pale and loses its protection against moisture. For this purpose, we have created a complete set that contains the most important utensils. The Wood care set for oiled dining tables. In addition to a wood soap, which removes dirt but does not damage the surface, the set consists of a care oil, polishing pads and an oil-absorbent cloth. Do something good for your table and look after it from time to time. The set contains everything you need.

This is how we build tables

Why are our tables special? Because we simply enjoy it when we can turn great wood into a dining table. We love our cutting boards, no question about it... but table tops are what we like best. So much life and emotion goes into a table top like this. From choosing the right wooden planks, sawing and planing them cleanly to laying the right picture - always something special.
