attractive and special

Pear tree

Impressive, attractive, different.

Pear wood is considered to be a very special, hard and high-quality local wood. It is therefore often used for luxurious interior design. The wood can have different colors, the spectrum ranges from light, yellowish, gray-brown to reddish brown and sometimes even dark red. The fine pores often make the wood appear particularly soft and noble. Even if the stylish wood is quite expensive due to its scarce availability, it rewards you with its impressive grain and high strength.

The wood of the pear tree

Pear trees belong to the rose family, which can be seen in the wild pear by its thorns. However, the cider pear and the cultivated pear, which were bred from the wild pear, are more commonly used for wood production. The rare pear wood is in great demand, but only available in small quantities. As a mature wood tree, the pear rarely forms a core, which means that there is no color difference between the sapwood and heartwood. The wood has a density of 0.79 g/cm3 relatively heavy and hard. Pear wood can be worked very well with all tools. Along with apple, cherry and walnut wood, pear is one of the most sought-after local precious woods in furniture making. Pear wood is also very popular with wood turners and wood carvers due to its decorative appearance and excellent workability.

Pear tree in the kitchen

Pear wood is often used for luxurious interior design and in our opinion this should also apply to the kitchen. Hob cover made of pear wood creates a real eye-catcher for every kitchen due to its impressive grain. In addition, you create additional storage space and the cover can also be used as a cutting board due to the hard surface. For modern stove systems with a centrally placed extractor, e.g. from Bora, we also have a Two-piece hob cover made of pear wood in our range. For small accents, our Snack boards made of pear. Since pear wood is not very weather-resistant, it should not come into contact with water too often and the wood should be oiled regularly.

Pear trees are mostly deciduous, small to medium-sized trees with a height of 15 to 20 meters and a trunk diameter of up to 90 cm. Some species, eg the wild pear, develop thorns.

The light to black-grey bark of the pear tree forms a cube-shaped bark with sharp transverse and longitudinal cracks that divide it into cube-shaped fields.

The 5 to 8 cm long, egg-shaped to elliptical leaves are alternate and have 4-8 cm long petioles. The leathery leaves are shiny dark green and have a finely serrated leaf edge.

fruit

The juicy, sweet fruits of the pear can be eaten raw, used for cooking and baking, or used to make must and juice. The Williams-Christ variety is also used to make the fruit brandy of the same name.
